The Department of Government Efficiency says the taxpayer had somehow saved $115 billion already. On DOGE's site, it talks about $115 billion in savings for the taxpayer. However, it's a surprise that DOGE has deleted hundreds of claims from its wall of receipts several times.
The proposed 50% cut in IRS staff by DOGE would cost the government an estimated extra $400 billion over the next decade in uncollected taxes and could even lead to as much as $2 trillion in losses. Currently, the IRS loses around $700 billion of taxes each year due to defaults in collection.
