Traditionally, we have been speaking about hygiene and personal care in society. However, we rarely mention the numerous hurdles that a plus-size person faces. Plus size hygiene is a part of general cleanliness like any cleanliness; it is also a state of self-love and acceptance.

Potential Challenges Related to Plus-Size Hygiene

Plus-size people often face specific issues related to hygiene and self-care. Common barriers include the following:

1. Limited access to plus-size friendly products: Many personal-care products, like shower chairs, bath mats, and even toilet seats, are designed with anything but plus-size.
2. Finding comfortable and supportive clothes is a challenge: plus-size people rarely find clothing that is both comfortable and supportive, making it even more challenging to be on top of their hygiene
3. Body shame and self-deprecation: Outside pressures adversely affect plus-size individuals and result in feelings of shame and low self-esteem, thus making it hard for them to get into self-care.

Essence of Plus-size Hygiene

Hygiene practice affects the physical as well as mental well-being of the plus size individuals. There are several advantages that hygiene practices provide:

1. Build confidence : Looking out for one's body has enabled plus-size persons to develop a belief in what they wear as something adding weight to their 'comfortable assumptions'.
2. Preventing diseases among patients: Good hygiene prevents rather than causes health complications like skin infections, UTIs, and a host of other conditions primarily associated with plus-size patients.
3. The mental health benefits: Focusing on hygiene and self-care helps alleviate anxiety and depression which are highly rampant in people with plus sizes.

Practical Tips for Plus Size Hygiene

Practical hygiene and self-care tips that can be used by plus-size people include the following:

1. Getting plus-size friendly products: Using products that were essentially made with plus-size individuals in mind like shower chairs or supportive clothes.
2. Find the comfortable and supportive clothes: Choose clothes for comfort and support; if necessary, get them from plus-size friendly brands.
3. Practice self-care and self-love: Take time for yourself, meditate, do yoga, or indulge in a nice bathroom soak.

This is a very informative post and I somewhat relate as a plus-size women. I am very much about hygiene as a mater of fact my saying is " look good, smell good hair done face and clothes slaying every day!" Now when I was heavier I would get tired in the shower if I stayed in or stood to long and that would make you rush to wash and get out leaving soap in creases that would later cause odor or bacteria from sweating. That then lead to frustration and depression. So shower chase or bench I recommend so you can properly wash and rinse your body. You can also sit a dry yourself. Again great post.

That article highlights a lot of great points and awareness of hygiene issues with plus-size women. I find that we are stereotyped because they she weight. I do admit there are those who may be trifling and unlearned because of habitation or cultural differences. However I myself have been taught personal hygiene as a child and carry that learning like my heart. I make it a ritual to be clean and odor free in all areas. I would like to do a training on plus-size hygiene and appearance. Grooming and being trendy as plus-size women. Being a Diva at all times!
